HOD'S Profile

Professor Johnson Toyin Fasinmirin was born to the family of Overseer and Late Deaconess Adebayo Samuel Fasinmirin of Ondo Kingdom on 9th June, 1969. He attended St. Joseph’s C.A.C Primary School, Ondo between 1976 – 1981. He joined St. Joseph’s College, Ondo for his secondary education between 1981 – 1986, and later moved to C.A.C Community Grammar School, Ondo, where he had his O’ level Certificate between 1987 – 1988. Upon completion of his secondary education, he got admitted into Ondo State Polytechnic (now Rufus Giwa Polytechnic), Owo for his National Diploma in Agricultural Engineering between 1989 – 1991. Professor Fasinmirin was admitted through the Direct entry to study Agricultural Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State between 1992 – 1997.

Prof. Johnson Toyin Fasinmirin upon the completion of his first degree and mandatory National Youth Service joined the services of the Federal University of Technology, Akure as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Agricultural Engineering on 8th December, 1998. He was appointed Assistant Lecturer on December 2001 at the completion of his M.Eng in Agricultural Engineering (Soil and Water Engineering option). He was later promoted to Lecturer II and Lecturer I in October 2004 and October 2007, respectively after he bagged the PhD in Soil, Water and Environmental Engineering. Prof. Fasinmirin was at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, RS, Brazil from March 2009 to April 2010 for Postdoctoral Fellowship and on resumption to the FUTA promoted to the grade of Senior Lecturer in October, 2010. He thereafter rose through the ranks to the position of Professor of Agricultural Engineering in October, 2016.

Prof J.T. Fasinmirin has taught various courses at both undergraduate and Postgraduate levels in the area of Soil and Water Engineering. They include: Advanced Hydraulics (AGE 525); Irrigation Engineering (AGE 425); Basic Fluid Mechanics (AGE 204); Basic Hydraulics (AGE 312); Advanced Drainage Engineering (AGE 809) and Dams (AGE 830). He has also supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate research students at Master and PhD levels.

Prof J.T. Fasinmirin has a total of eighty (80) publications in referred Journals and Conference Proceedings. His publications are widely distributed in different globally ranked Journals both local and international. He has been able to publish eleven (11) articles since the last two years, out of which five (6) were published in SCOPUS Indexed Journals with high Impact factor. Professor Fasinmirin has demonstrated a high level of commitment to research and training of students, which are the core mandate of the University. He has served severally as external examiner in his area of specialization to some notable higher institutions in Nigeria, among which are Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho. Most of his publications in the last two years are in the areas of soil and water management for improvement in Agricultural production.

Awards and distinctions received by Prof Fasinmirin include: Best Graduate with the Highest CGPA, School of Engineering, Ondo State Polytechnic Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria. (School Prize). 1991. Best Graduate with the Highest CGPA, Department of Agricultural Engineering, Ondo State Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria. (Departmental Prize). 1991. Department of Agricultural Engineering Prize, Federal University of Technology, Akure, awarded for being the best graduate student of the Department in the 1996/97 session. He also got the Federal Government of Nigeria Staff Development Fellowship for Master’s degree, FUTA, Staff Development Fellowship for PhD degree, FUTA. He won the TWAS-CNPq Award for Postdoctoral Fellowship in Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, Brazil (2008) and was a Technical Partner with University of Alicante, Spain on Integrated Soil Fertility Management, CAPACITY4FOOD PROJECT in the sub-Saharan African Countries.

Prof Fasinmirin has won many research grants and fellowships, among which are: FUTA Senate Research Grant, Landmark University Research Grant: e8 Sustainable Energy Development Research Grant Award in support of his Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria. Professor Fasinmirin is a reviewer to several Scopus indexed Journals and has attended many conferences nationally and internationally. He is a member of many professional bodies such as NIAE, NSE, ASABE, ISTRO and COREN. He is a member and chairman of several committee within the University. Professor Fasinmirin served as the Associate Director, Centre for Research and Development of the Federal University of Technology, Akure between April, 2018 - July,2019. He is presently the Head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Akure.

Professor Fasinmirin is happily married and blessed with children.
